We got our first real snowfall at Pyrth Annwn for 2010 - 4.5" of white powdery puffiness draping every tree, rock and plant under a silvery shimmery blanket of snow.
Little Maeryn (who's pretty big now actually) has never seen snow before, and what an experience it was to watch her tromp and play and stomp and twirl through the snow banks. It was like a child at Christmas, tearing through the ribbons and wrapping paper, except she didn't really care what was in the box, until she managed to dig up a deer bone in her twirlings and then - bonus!
Our older dogs, Remy and Sheba, looked on a bit confused as to Maeryn's flight of fancy, but then seemed swept away by her sheer giddiness and got in on the fun. Daddy even got in on the action, tossing snow balls and sliding through the underbrush with them.
We've been attempting to teach Sheba about toys, as she apparently grew up without the concept and still doesn't seem to understand what all the fuss is about really. Why chase a ball when there's a perfectly good stick to nibble on? However, in the energy of the day, we managed to get her to "steal" a toy from us, run away and drop it, then come back looking to "steal" one again, not quite understanding that we needed the toy back in order for her to commit the crime. It was a first step, but a fun one for all of us.
Even though we had the tasks before us of hauling and chopping wood, gathering kindling, and other odds and ends that had to be done before nightfall, I'm glad we all took a moment to have fun, be playfull and enjoy the winter wonderland that surrounded us. Hope you've had a chance to do the same - that little reminder of childhood frivolity does a heart good in the dark times of the winter.

What's wrong with a Hair-elastic? I find that a ribbons is fitting for that
